  • As per recent reports, it has been revealed that NASA has received more than 6,300 applications for NASA’s astronaut job.
  • NASA conducted job interviews for astronauts some three years ago and nine astronauts got selected that time.
  • NASA’s officials told that they need 58 astronauts.

This year applicants’ number have broken previous record. As per NASA’s rule, all the candidates would undergo a rigorous training and only those candidates would remain in the team who would have be able to bear the stress and have the abilities. In the last test, it would be assessed that whether they are capable to go on a space mission and return back alive or not.

  • Being an astronaut is not an easy task, and requires a lot of intelligence and precision in the job.
  • A person who dreams to become America’s hero should have that killer instinct which should show at the time of crisis.
  • The next level of the training would initiate in 2013, in which their qualification skills, personal habits and character traits would be judged.
  • Those who would get green signal from second test would be eligible to undergo third test which would have some technical tests.

From a long time, astronauts were retiring from their positions and some lost their lives in space missions.Previous recruitment drive could not fill in complete posts. This is the reason that they have started a fresh recruitment drive for future American Heroes.

Peggy Whitson, who is the chairman of the Astronaut Selection Board, said, “Our team not only will be looking at their academic background and professional accomplishments but also at other elements of their personality and character traits -- what types of hobbies they have or unique life experiences”.

He further affirmed that selected candidates would go on board from 2014.
